"Nicholas"
Summerhill Nicholas
April 1995 - May 2003
A sweeter, kinder soul of any type has never lived. Nicholas was an angel in a dog suit. He was my first Flat Coat, sold to me to train as a service dog for my son. It was so much fun taking a dog everywhere with us. Nicholas went to the mall, restaurants, the grocery store and even flew with us to New York and sat at my feet on the plane. Of course he had to kiss all the passengers up & down the aisle as we were boarding. My son loved Nicholas's company, but as he got older wanted more independence. So Nicholas retired and became our best loved house dog. I used to say he was yellow because God dipped him in gold...that's why he was so pure and good.
Nicholas was by far our most trustworthy Flat Coat. He didn't even counter cruise (can you believe it :-) The one "bad" thing that he would do would be to jump the fence on occasion and go swimming in our little fish pond. I always laughed imagining how the fish felt seeing this big yellow dog jumping in and out of a pond the size of a large bathtub! He also hated getting his toenails cut, but that's another story.
We still miss Nicholas so much...he will never be forgotten.

Ascension
And if I go,
while you're still here...
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
--both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
...I will be there.
"If there are no dogs
in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went."
– Will Rogers
